Help increase local biodiversity easily when you plant native!

When you choose native plants for your garden, you are helping restore what was once abundant in our region.

What is a native plant?

Native plants are plants that are indigenous to a certain area. In this context, we are talking about plants that are indigenous to the Pacific Northwest of the Americas. When North America was colonized, settlers brought European plants to our region. Those European plants did not evolve in our ecosystem, so some had an unfair advantage and became garden escape plants, spreading to natural areas and choking out native plant life. Loss of native plants means loss of biodiversity and loss of food for animals and critters. Planting plants that are native to your region is important for this reason: to steward the land as it was being taken care of before time.
